Yemeni blogger Afrah Nasser discusses the revolution during Almedalen week
Feminist blogger Afrah Nasser, from Yemen, will participate in a discussion about the movie Zero Silence arranged by Global Utmaning on July 7th.
CNN recently listed Afrah Nasser one of 10 must-read blogs from the Middle East. The 26-year old Yemeni journalist at the Yemen Observer has been blogging for a year about the situation in Yemen, the revolution and the violence against the opposition.
Her work has met with opposition and threats because of her criticisms against Yemen’s president Saleh. Because of the threats and the escalating violence, Afrah Nasser has chosen to seek political asylum in Sweden. Her decision has drawn a lot of media attention, including an interview with Reuters that has been widely published in international media. She comments on the interview at her blog here, to emphasize that the issue in focus should not be her personally, but rather on all the antagonism and violence that faces anti-regime Yemeni journalists.
Afrah Nasser will continue to report on and blog about the situation in Yemen, she says.
