New report from ABBBA – Carbon Market opportunities within the forestry sector
The carbon market presents opportunities for the forestry sector. ABBBA has identified a need – of organizations and business people in both Africa and the Nordic countries – to better understand the carbon market and the opportunities and limitations it brings about for forestry investments. With the report “Carbon Market Opportunities within the Forestry Sector”, we want to straighten out question marks on the key concepts.
The report focuses on the UN Mechanism CDM, which is a common feature in the debate, but it also touches upon voluntary schemes and the REDD mechanism. The report gives a clarification of the requirements needed for a project to be funded and how the future of the CDM market might look like.
– Generally, there have been large and perhaps exaggerated hopes for co-financing while there in other cases exists lacking opportunities to financing due to a lack of knowledge about the basic rules of the European Trade System, says Mattias Goldmann , who has written the report and previously worked on developing CDM-projects in eastern Africa.
