Nordic Urban Ways

The study Nordic Urban Ways – Local leadership, governance, and management for sustainable development has been developed in collaboration with UN Habitat and is based on global goal 11 on Sustainable Urban Development in the UN’s 2030Agenda. It includes interviews with mayors from a nine cities in the Nordic region.

The main conclusion is that a clear focus on sustainability, combined with a strong local autonomy are key factors to achieve sustainable urban development. Other factors for the Nordic cities’ success in sustainability; continuity of urban planning, public participation, visionary decision-making and to create synergies between actors.
